Paternity leave in Dubai……. Author: ashley |

Husbands in Dubai government employees can now get paid paternity leave that too for three days, Which is if I’m not mistaken, about enough time to buy some flowers, visit the hospital, and be a good husband (and as you are getting a bonus here) be a good father too….
As a father-to-be you have the rights to paternity leave and statutory paternity pay (SPP) to allow eligible workers to take paid leave to care for a baby or to support the baby’s mother following birth. You can take up to 3 days paid leave from work following the birth of a baby in UAE. (Isn’t that great)
Moreover, to be entitled to paternity leave you must give notice to your employer before the baby is due and tell them the following details;
-When the baby is expected to be born;
-How much leave you wish to take (note: more then 3 day will be unpaid);
-When you wish the leave to start.
Coming to think of it, allowing paternity leave is a positive step UAE is taking towards its citizens. Furthermore, it’s a step in the right direction. I think it’s a rather good idea, and a rather good beginning.
After all this is Dubai and things never stop getting better here. isn’t it!!.
But then again people are never satisfied, I mean after having a whole free breakfast from the big boss himself, “we” the public, don’t want only the breakfast, we want breakfast, lunch and dinner with desert.
In addition, while I was doing a survey about paternity leave in Dubai, I came across many comments which sounded something like this,
1. I think this is a great idea of the Dubai Government but I don’t think so that 3-day paternity leave is enough, why not 7 days or 2 weeks
2. I guess in UK it would be much better at least better then UAE??
3.By the time the mother has recovered from the initial exhaustion of giving birth the father will be long back at the office, but never mind. At least he got enough time off for a cigar. (What’s with the cigar!!).
Now lets open up your eyes from gossip world to reality, first of all even in UK the paternity leave has only been enacted since 2002 (Employment Act 2002). True it allows for a longer leave allowance 2 weeks paid leave and up to 13 weeks unpaid but then again don’t forget, what we have here is just the beginning.
Moreover, with proper planning and management, I think a guy could arrange things such that to guarantee great comfort for his loved ones.
Therefore a message to all my friends lets quite being cynical instead be more encouraging (praising), supportive after all they are working so hard for us, can’t we change a lil’ bit for them. hmm
and yea If you are about to have a baby, congrats and best of luck..
P.S
Mr.Cigar if you are reading this can you please answer my question “whtz with te cigar” I really wanno know??
