Ibn Battuta Mall is a shopping destination, which is themed around the travels of renowned 14th century Arabian explorer, Ibn Battuta.
The mall features six courts, each with its own entrance reflecting the most influential places Ibn Battuta traveled during his time, providing mall visitors an invaluable glimpse into the past.
The six courts are comprised of the Andalusian Court, the North African Court, the Egyptian Court, the Persian Court, the Indian Court and the Chinese Court.
Located adjacent to Sheikh Zayed Road, Ibn Battuta Mall is a combination of retail, entertainment, restaurants and family activities.
With a total size of 3.5 million square feet (325,000 square meters) and a leasable area of 1.2 million square feet (110,100 square meters), the mall was set to host 268 retail outlets, and has brought several international brands to the United Arab Emirates including household names such as Geant, Fitz & Simons, Fitness First, Tony Roma’s, Lego, The Toy Store, Evisu, Titto Bluni, Ecko Unltd, The Natural Source, Fidel, Conbipel, Lamsa, Strandbags, Marble Slab Creamery, and Dolce Vita.
Moreover, Ibn Battuta Mall is home to a 21 screen cinema Megaplex, including the United Arab Emirates’ first IMAX cinema.
The mall also offers parking space for more than 5,000 cars.
Furthermore, the mall offers ‘edutainment’ features that combine entertainment and education. Visitors can benefit from storytelling tours at the mall providing an exciting opportunity for the public to better understand the historic value of the architecture, theme, and the life of Ibn Battuta.
The mirror maze was launched as part of the entertainment experience. The mirror maze, which can be found in the mall’s China Court, is designed by Adrian Fisher who is internationally recognized as the world’s leading maze designer. (interesting ha!!)
In addition, A 25-metre Chinese sea faring Junk, a replica of the one in which Ibn Battuta sailed through the Indian Ocean, was recreated and located in the China Court.
The mall also contains a virtual aquarium by which one can observe marine life containing a different schools of fish to Great White sharks.
Also, a replica of the Elephant clock that was created by Al-Jazari, an Islamic engineer at the end of the 12th century, is located at the India court. The Elephant Clock is a time piece that works according to the “chain reaction” model. (although when I first saw it, I thought it was a showpiece but then again, that was just me I think!!)
And finally, a sand sculpture based on mosques from the Middle East and Heritage buildings of Dubai has slowly been unfolding during the time of Ramadan at Ibn Battuta Mall. In fact, more than 75 tones of sand are being used to make the structure, just imagine that
As I add in some spice to your imagination by presenting you the IBN BATUTA MALL gallery…..
